Second time at Penny End and already can't wait to return again. Cosy cottage that's like a home away from home in a peaceful setting. Bathtub and fire are perfect after a day of walking. Easy to drive to shops in Cockermouth and great base for exploring the western Lake District. Great hospitality from Svea and loved meeting the wonderful sheep and chickens! See you again!

Recenly my wife, daughter and I fully enjoyed a stay at Penny End. The owner was very helpful and showed great hospitality. The comfort in the accomodation is also 10 out of 10. Penny End has a great, quiet location, one can go for walks from the cottage but it is also easy to have a drive or a ride on the bike. We would certainly recommend to spent a holiday here.

What a wonderful weekend! Penny End is attractive, comfortable, and spotlessly clean with everything one might need. The location is superb - quiet and tucked out the way, but with one of the finest views in Cumbria just a short walk from the door. Svea is a lovely, attentive host who knows how to make guests welcome without overcrowding them. As we were there in lambing season, hand feeding the orphan lambs was a must, and fresh eggs from Svea’s hens made a delightful breakfast. We hope to be back soon!

We had a fantastic stay at Penny End Cottage. Svea is a fantastic host and the cottage was cosy and spotlessly clean. The surrounding area was stunning, with less busy fells on the doorstep. Cockermouth is only a short drive away for the big supermarket and eateries. We will definitely be back to visit soon!

Lovely accommodation, so clean and comfortable and full of character. Owner was friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. Great to sit out in the garden listening to the birds and sheep and insects. Very comfy beds, good hot shower, considerate extras. Can’t fault it, hope to go back.

Stayed for a long weekend at Penny End. The cottage is perfect, it has all the amenities and some additional lovely touches. The location couldn't be better - With Cockermouth and Keswick, plus many of the lakes and fells within a short drive away. We didn't want to leave. Would happily stay again!

We had a wonderful weekend at Penny End. Fantastic location - close to amenities in Cockermouth (10 min drive), short and scenic drive to Buttermere/Crummock Water area and many stunning walks right from the cottage. The newly installed log fire made for cosy evenings after a long day of walking. Kitchen and bathroom both fantastic - bathtub was especially appreciated. Bed was really comfy and the reading area upstairs was a great second living area. Cottage was spotlessly clean. Svea was great at communicating with us (arrival times, recommendations for our trip etc.) and also has created a handy guide with tips and local walks for you to read. This is a great place if you love hikes but don't want to be nestled right in the action (Windermere/Keswick etc.). We would love to return sometime!

Just had the most wonderful week at Penny End. The cottage is nice and cosy, a historic building but with the mod cons you need. Just the right size for us - 2 adults and 2 kids. Lovely eggs from the local hens, local biscuits and apples from the orchard as a welcome gift too! You can wake up to see the sheep in the fields and breakfast in the garden. The location is in a very peaceful little hamlet but an easy drive to the beautiful lakes. Svea is a lovely host and gave us some great suggestions on where to go with the kids.

I stayed at Penny End over Christmas 2021 and Svea my host arranged a warm Christmas welcome for me decorations and goodies. Its a great place with carefully designed interiors for a very comfortable and cosy stay. The red squirrels in the garden were an absolute joy! I look forward to returning and highly recommend Penny End as a location to access the spectacular North West Fells
